Omega 2998-5 owned by Famous Author
WHY IT'S SPECIAL
This is a historical Omega Speedmaster reference 2998-5. It was given to American author Barry Lopez as a high school graduation gift. He went on to write famous books including “Arctic Dreams” and “Of Wolves and Men.” He was likened to Thoreau and this watch accompanied him while writing and traveling the world! The watch itself is an attractive 2998-5. The watch appears to have been re-lumed a long time ago. Also the sub-register hands, chronograph hand, and crystal appear to be old replacements. The dial is clean overall with a few small oil stains that are only visible in certain lighting. It is on a stretched 7912 bracelet with #6 end links. Overall a unique opportunity to acquire a rare watch with fantastic history. The watch is coming from his family and the letter of provenance will be included with purchase. This is the epitome of vintage watch collecting when a rare watch has a documented and colorful history!
